My Credentials: Training Providers, Languages I Speak & More

Something I love about being a full-spectrum doula is the constant learning and evolving required for the role. I’ve learned more than I thought possible to be honest, and this has come alongside a lot of unlearning too. Unlearning of systems, of my own biases and of internal narratives around pregnancy and birth.

My training provider choices have been made mindfully, and I’m grateful to have and be learning from teachers who embody and center Black, Brown, Indigenous, queer & trans narratives and experiences pertaining to doula work.

Before becoming a doula I did a lot of childcare and hospitality, but my main thing was tattooing! I did it for a few years, mostly in East London with a small stint in West. I was lucky to work with mostly queer clients, which was a really great time. I’m grateful for the skills it taught me, which have helped me be a good doula. Listening, ensuring people’s physical and emotional safety, and communicating with them while they’re in pain. I see it as almost an apprenticeship to getting here to be honest.

Not so much training, but honourable mention to the lifelong special interest of minethat is pregnancy and birth. Granted until I got into this a lot of my knowledge came from Call the Midwife and One Born Every Minute (please, do not watch the latter if you’re preparing to give birth, trust me!) but I have been a total birth nerd as long as I can remember. As a kid I had this one cartoon on VHS about the body which I’d just watch on a loop sometimes. It did make birth look way too clean and simple but the overall process of reproduction just fascinated me, as it still does now.

Some more things of note!

I hold a DBS certificate on the renewal system

I speak German and Brazilian Portuguese as a native speaker, if this is important to you please make note of it in your enquiry.
