"Our paths crossed Joeys as they were being mentored by our beloved doula and we can’t help but feel it was fate that they were present for the birth of our son. As the birthing parent, I was a VBAC hopeful and Joey helped me become a VBAC success and I definitely attribute the support I received in this dream becoming a reality. It was a long labor that included a middle of the night call (two nights in fact) and labouring at home, as well as labouring at the hospital. Joey’s natural ability to offer suggestions, love, advocacy and support in such an effortless manner was amazing to witness. The attention to emotional needs as well as physical, is something I will forever be in awe of. From creating laughter to focused support, every action came with such intention. As a second time birthing parent, it was hard for me to believe this was the first hands on birth experience Joey had! They are built for this and I’m so incredibly honoured to be a small part of their journey. It started with offering effective suggestions and support through my third trimester of pregnancy to now still keeping in touch with our family at 5 months postpartum, Joey is a gift.
